Just poking my head in quickly to remind all you local folk that Supanova 2011 (or Nerdcon as I affectionately and stereotypically call it) is happening THIS WEEKEND at the Claremont Showgrounds. Both Grug and I will be there ALL GODDAMN WEEKEND sitting behind a desk selling the brand new print edition of Glorious Bounty Book 2: The Sticky Goat Affair!
Book 2 was so unfeasibly huge and jam-packed that we actually split it into two parts. But the good news is that you can buy both those books for a mere $10 combined, and they contain the ENTIRE story (even though it's yet to wrap up online). And these books areglorious FULL COLOUR. It also comes with a free button/badge of reprhensible squid thing Deevis:
And wait! There's more! We'll also have copies of Glorious Bounty Book One: The Sexy Virus there, which came with a Bruce button/badge. AND if Grug's in a good mood and I'm not gallavanting around the convention floor, we'll even sign the books and do a sketch. So you could get the entire collection in hand for a measly $20 (maybe even less if we get desperate). (Don't tell Grug I said that because I'll deny it).(Because he will beat me).
And I might even be flogging some old unsold copies of Bunnies That Hate.
OH! AND... (there's more?) for at least part of the con I will be wearing my full stormtrooper armor! But not for long because I cannot physically sit while wearing that frigging thing.
YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE AND EVERYTHING TO GAIN*
*You will lose the $10 - $20 that we take from you.
Hope to see you there!

Glorious Bounty Fan Art 2!! Embroidery!?
One of the most awesome things about making things on the internet is that you are linked to wonderful people who are also making things. And I can wake up to surprise like this!
This is the second piece of Glorious Bounty "fan art" (for want of a better, less aggrandizing term) and it's a real doozy! You've seen PK and Deevis in space. You've seen them out in the snow. But did you ever expect to see them...
EMBROIDERED ON A DISH TOWEL?!!?!!!?! (There is not enough punctuation in the world to express this!)
This was the first thing I saw this morning, and seriously, it was good enough that I could have rolled over, gone back to sleep and called it a day.
Huge thanks to my dear, and very talented, friend, Rebecca, who made this (and has been sewing many awesome things!) (And could also write me under the table). It is a fun, but stern, reminder that I never sent her the copy of the first book issue that I promised! That makes me a total douche, right? A douche who must make amends!
I am thrilled to live in a world where something like this exists!

Glorious Bounty Fan Art!
Actually, I hate to use the term "fan art" in this instance, and merely use the words as a lure so that you have somewhat of an idea of what you're getting into. I really should title this post "New Glorious Bounty Art By a Friend Who is an Accomplished Artist and Comic Book Creator in his Own Right" because the piece is question was drawn by a fellow Perth comics creator who now resides in Melbourne.
I'm talking about Andrei Buters who writes and draws the very engaging and deep fantasy series Dead by Thirty which I recently read the first three episodes of (Ha! I read one that hasn't even been released yet, suckers! I got the hook up!) and I immensely enjoyed both the clever writing and Andrei's style. You can read more about the series here, and you can even buy some of it from here.
So after threatening for a while, Andrei surprised Grug and I yesterday with his brilliant interpretation of the Glorious Bounty crew.
And it happened to look a lot like this (Click for super-sized version):
I'm pretty sure that this is the first time that anyone other than Grug has drawn the Bounty gang. I think this is officially a greenlight to open the floodgates, so if you want to draw them and send/link them to me then I will post your versions too. I love how Andrei has put the blades at PK's base on cords. So post your interpretations so we can rip off all your good ideas. Come on Alex Ross! I know you're a fan, so GET ON IT!!
And this is all extremely topical because today is also new Glorious Bounty day. Some brief thoughts on the new page.
I especially love Grug's work on this last page as he introduces a new (and detailed) set and creates a strong performance for Bruce. It's also nice to get away from the recent bickering and let some dialogue flow (well... Bruce is really doing a monologue, but still it's a break from the bullshit of the other characters). I had a lot of fun coloring this one, playing with the pinks, reds and golds to try and sex it up a little (even though what's happening is very unsexy). I also used pinks and golds to kind of subconsciously link the room back to Bruce's drink so you're always reminded of its presence.
But the thing I'm most pleased with (are you enjoying reading me pat myself on the back? Hooray for us and our dumb comic! This calls for a ticker-tape parade!) is the fact that we're finally getting a little more backstory about Bruce and how he fits in with the gang. I've always seen him as somewhat apart from the other guys, even though in many ways he's the metaphoric glue that holds them all together.
My god! We are all so clever and thoughtful that it's amazing we haven't received any recognition or awards! Where are our trophies, Grug? I've cleared all my shelves!

Taking the Comic for a Test Drive
Have you read the latest page of Glorious Bounty?
I can wait.
Cool, I mean, it's not really a spoiler, we kinda announced this so called 'sticky goat' in the title of the book, but even so you should have seen the newest page before looking at this mind-blowing, behind-the-scenes, seldom-seen-before piece of art work.
Back when we had freshly designed these characters, when I knew very little indeed of what was going to go down in these stories, or even who the characters really were, I decided to do a couple of comic pages more to take them for a test-drive than anything else.
I am sure you have noticed by now that my characters can often stray off-model, and I thought drawing a few practice comics before we began would help me refine them a bit more before we began and help make them somewhat consistent. Unfortunately, that wasn't really the case (look at the first ten pages of The Sexy Virus, back when I was attempting to bite Joann Sfar's style a lot more).
Anyway, I just went ahead and drew three test comics - no dialogue, no story, just the characters moving around the page and interacting, really.
And one of them was this one:
And that thing, clung to the ceiling, which is really nothing more than a cute thing I scribbled, grabbed Luke's imagination.
And then this book happened.
I can wait.

Holiday Hiatus
As you may have guessed, we're taking a little break from Bounty during the holidays. My guess is that we'll back up and running with a new page on the 11th. Have an awesome time everybody!

Podcast Promo!
Check out the fantastic image that Grug has whipped up to promote the upcoming podcast appearance! It kills me:
PK reading the newspaper is the best! It can also be seen here with a write up about the event.

Glorious Bounty Featured on Podcast!
Just a quick head's up to let you know that I will be the featured guest on the Moonhawk Studios Presents comics podcast this coming Thursday morning (Australian time - Wednesday night US time) to talk about Glorious Bounty.
It's recorded live, so unfortunately hirsute super-artist Grug will be unable to join me, which might be a good thing because I was probably going to talk over him anyway. Now I will have to make up elaborate stories about his childhood in his absence. Actually, he will be sorely missed but I will do my best to favourably represent us both. I'LL DO THE TEAM PROUD, BIG GUY! You trust me, right?
Anyway I'm really looking forward to it. I want to get more involved with podcasting stuff and this will be a nice way to get my toes wet. I can think of at least three other nice ways to also get my toes wet, but this will be great I'm sure.
And did I mention that this is a US podcast and I'll be their first ever Australian guest? Hopefully they won't imitate Steve Irwin or ask me if I live in the pouch of a kangaroo. I'm sure those things are full of mucous. I'LL DO AUSTRALIA PROUD, BIG GUYS. You trust me, right?
So if you can't listen to it live then don't fret your pretty heads/mouths - the file will be available for download afterwards and I'll put a link on the blog. I promise. Even if I totally embarrass myself/Grug/our country.
More soon!!
